Jacques Rougerie Competition 2017- Shortlisted

The competition category we choose was Architecture and Sea Level with a focus on the African Coastline, our home country Mauritius. Taking Grand Sable, a village located on the East side of the island, as a case study, we researched and came up with a modular approach to sea rise.

Containers are ubiquitous and readily available. Making the most of the modularity of containers, a grid system was devised to gradually relocate everyday activities towards the sea.

As the water level rises, submerged structures give way to marine life whilst habitable modular environments move to replace the immersed land.
